Understanding a Model Release

The Model Release is supposed to be a 2way-binding contract between the model and the photographer. The terms of the release should be clearly spelled out for usage, and compensation. Usage should be clear… portfolio, self-promotion, art piece. Commercial use etc. Compensation could be a cd of images (with print rights), a print, (or several) or money, this is usually negotiable. Remember that if it doesn’t say it on the release, you are not intitled to it. (IE: print rights with a cd of images.) Make sure to get it in writing!
